The Italian Championships were held at Benevento airfield 17 – 21st May 2017. OZONE Italian Team pilots Pasquale Biondo finished in the first place flying his new Viper 4 18 followed by Sandro Passeri – 2nd on Viper 4 18.
Pasquale says: “the weather conditions have been unstable with strong winds and even rain, but the organization managed to run several tasks such as precision take off, spot landing, pure economy and different navigation tasks”
Other Italian pilot, Aurelio Tonchei, who flew Viper 4 20 in this competition reports: “I flew OZONE Viper 4 20 and I had a perfect feeling with the wing during the race. It’s extreme easy inflation undoubtedly helped in the take-off and landing in all task during the competition. Part of the race took place in strong weather conditions, and here the Viper 4 was very good and I felt safe. The use of the speed system is comfortable and light, giving lots of extra speed when you need it”

The first event of the 2017 World Cup took place in Coeur de Savoie, France. It came to a close on Saturday after six days of intense flying around the beautiful Savoie. It was a week with many kilometers flown – more than 600 in total!
OZONE’s own designer and team pilot, Luc Armant, led the competition from task one until the prize ceremony, taking first place overall. Congrats, Luc!
In Luc’s words:
“We’ve been very lucky with the weather, I have never seen 6 tasks in a row anywhere in Europe before. After eventually winning the first task by flying aggressively in front with out other strategy than following my instinct, then I focused on winning the competition and changed my strategy toward trying to keep the lead with out risking too much. I was helped by Russ and Hono’s advices and encouragements. In fact, I think I was also helped by everyone’s support after the first task.

Katalin Juhasz has just set a new female open distance record in her homeland, Hungary, with an amazing 215 km flight.
In her own words:”This season started slowly in Hungary, except for a few days, there were no great opportunities. The weather forecast was good for this day, so we traveled from Budapest to the 400m “high” Szársomlyó, which we call “mountain”. 300km by car, 1h walk to the mountain where 40 pilots were preparing to fly feverishly. In 2014 I set up a 122km Hungarian female record at a declared goal that I’d try again this day. I carefully wrote up: 130 kilometers . We were watching the air and at noon it seemed worth starting.
The first 70km flight was simple, with some members of the Hungarian national team, we managed to work together efficiently and quickly. The clouds were working as the textbook. Suddenly the clouds began to fall apart, so I got lower while the others kept their height. I had to decide and pulled away from my teammates alone in the direction of my goal.
