High Family Reunion: New Colorado Tandem Record
It was the beginning of September when Bert, Pete’s brother, visited town. It was an epic day in Colorado and Pete’s mind wasn’t on the ground at all. Instead of taking his brother for a beer in the local bar, Pete ordered two bottles of Oxygen to-go, and took his brother for a ride to set a new tandem record in his hometown. In Pete’s words:
“On September 2nd, flying my Magnum2 38 with my brother Bert, we set a new Colorado tandem distance record. The flight lasted nearly four hours, had a maximum altitude of 5,452 meters (17,882 ft) and covered 109k of fantastic mountain terrain. Typically I fly XC solo, but this day was graced with the perfect setup and fantastic conditions. With my brother visiting from out of town and a great forecast I had a major dilemma; do I cancel my plans with this dear family member to selfishly solo fly (again) or do I spend the time with him on the ground? There was only one option that felt right and that was to take him flying with me. The issue here is that most people can’t handle such a big flight …read more

Return to the nest
Nick Neynens returns to the place where he found his wings, only to discover a “Lost World”. In his words:
“I learnt to fly in Canungra ten years ago. I’ve been spoilt since then with big mountains in New Zealand and around the world, but lately I’ve been hearing about the great flying going on in Australia, with Jan ripping it up in his new Zeno flying “around the world”, a route around prehistoric ridges covered in jungle. So I got away from work between shifts. On the last day the weather was the best, and I had a big triangle in mind after trying something similar the day before. My mate Andy arrived an hour late so I got flying early – no friends on a day like this – and nearly bombed out. Typical Canungra! But I got going into the good stuff and followed an amazing ridge – the caldera – 40km to the south. From here I turned back into the guts before crossing to the west, pushing out for a 100km FAI triangle, and then without wasting any time pushing back home. Andy had flown south to Kyogle and asked me to pick up …read more

Hidden lines
There are places we can venture, where there is no room for error. Hidden lines draw a route, but they must first be found. Bill Belcourt, Matt Dadam, Chris Galli, and Phillip Russman, take us for a ride over the wilderness of the Uinta Mountain Range, in Utah, USA. To experience the Uintas, stars must align. Perfect conditions, the right team, modern equipment, and real commitment came together for this team, recently:
Of their flight, Bill Belcourt says, “There is only one road that bisects the first 25% of the range and after that you are a long ways from anything. Conditions have to be perfect to fly this line and it does not get flown much (as in, almost never). The range is notorious for over-development, wind, and the plateau is so high and broad you can easily sink out at over 12,000ft (3650m). The walk out could take days… A few of us have been deep in there before, but this flight was the first time we had a posse (6 pilots, 4 on Zenos). That made it way more fun and easier to handle the depth of the range. The place is mind blowing on so many …read more

Test flight, to goal: Delta 3
We just received a note from Hungarian record holder, Katalin Juhasz, who has conquered another podium:
“Last week, in the Serial Cup competition that was organized in Tolmin, with the help of the Hungarian OZONE dealer Gabor Turi, I tried the OZONE Delta 3 MS. In the comp, I finished 10th place in the overall ranking (118 participant total) and 1st place in the female category. The Delta 3 is a great glider with unbelievable performance, I really liked it!”
Excellent test flight Katalin, it’s rare and impressive for the very first flights to put us on a podium!

Ozone Pilots Sweep Nordic Open: Another Perfect 10
The Nordic Paragliding Open took place in Tolmin, Slovenia, from August 27th to September 2nd. Pilots from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden congregated in the Julian Alps for a week of fun flying. Our good friend and winner of the event, Ronny Helgesen, reports:
“For Rolf Dale and I, this was the perfect event to test our fresh Enzo 3s. The first day was slow and we were skeptical to use too much speed bar close to the terrain. The glider felt very stable so the next day we flew faster. After two days of competition, Rolf was in the lead just one point ahead of me. I won the next day and we were leading the comp together.
On the fourth day the race was moved to Lilack. I was in the leading gaggle close to goal and when I realized that the first five pilots didn’t have enough altitude to reach goal I went for it and made it to goal first, winning the Nordic Championship. Thanks OZONE for making this beautiful wing”
Rolf Dale finished second, and Erik Renhelf third on his Zeno.
In the women’s category, the winner was Johanna Hamne, followed by Mari-Anne Aanes …read more
